Katrina and Alex found their Delaware wedding venue in an unconventional way. Katrina’s cousin got married at Bellevue Hall in 2021. I was actually lucky enough to photograph that wedding too! Katrina had such an amazing time that she wanted to do it all over again. The couple had their Bellevue Hall in the spring. Surrounded by loving friends and family and a stunning palette of blues and pinks, their wedding was truly a celebration.
Bellevue Hall is a historic mansion in a state park. It was built in the 1850s for the DuPont family. The interiors are immaculately maintained with sprawling gardens and a gazebo surrounding the mansion. Katrina and Alex truly had the perfect May weather to enjoy every part of this dreamy venue.
I love this wedding venue because you’d never know it was in a state park. It’s so well kept and feels very private. Even when the park gets busy, your wedding feels like it’s in its own little world. Because it’s so well kept, you also don’t need to add much decor to make it feel special. It’s elegant enough on its own.
Bellevue Hall is part of the JAM Catering group of wedding venues. They make it very easy to get married there. The venue has capacity for up to 250 guests with indoor options available for smaller weddings. Site fees range between $2,450 and $5,250 depending on the time of year and day of the week. Package prices start at $168+ per person.
Located in Wilmington, Bellevue Hall is about thirty minutes south of Philadelphia. You can’t stay at the venue itself, but it’s located near plenty of bed and breakfasts and hotels. Wilmington even features some cool boutique hotels like the Quoin Hotel. Your guests can enjoy staying nearby for the weekend instead of trekking back and forth to the city. You can plan a whole wedding weekend in Wilmington, too.
In a lot of ways, Katrina is a classic Scorpio. She’s very detail oriented, and it shows in how this wedding came together. She chose a vibrant spring palette of pinks and blues. Her bouquet brimmed with bright blooms and lots of movement. Everything from the decor to their clothes spoke to the clean, timeless inspiration they drew on in designing the wedding. They didn’t sweat the fads and focused on what was meaningful to them.
This Bellevue Hall wedding had a lot of springtime energy in that it was very easygoing and sweet. Katrina and Alex had an amazing group of family members and friends around them all day. It was nice to already know the family from photographing Katrina’s cousin’s wedding.
The portraits in this gallery give you a sense of the sheer variety of spaces at Bellevue Hall. The pastel yellow exterior and pink and blue interior felt like they were designed with weddings in mind. I had fun creating images with an editorial edge in different settings like the tiled bathroom and elegant staircase.
Honestly, though, some of my favorite moments are the candid ones. I love the image of Katrina touching Alex’s cheek while he reads his vows. Katrina spent so much of the day smiling and laughing with her wedding party, too. You can see how excited everyone is to be a part of this celebration.
A laid back wedding day made sense for Katrina and Alex. They’re sentimental but not fussy. They had their first date at Yards Brewing, and they got engaged at Longwood Gardens. They really wanted their wedding to be fun for their guests. I’d say they succeeded!
A bumping dance party was a big priority for Alex and Katrina’s Bellevue Hall wedding reception. After the cake cutting, Katrina changed into a stunning sequin reception dress. She really brought the energy to the party, and pretty soon, guests packed the dance floor. I loved photographing this wedding!
