Baltimore has some amazing industrial wedding venues. Given the city’s history as an important port, it makes a lot of sense! Among all of them, though, Mt Washington Mill Dye House is a gem. Nicole and Zach hosted a classic wedding filled with connection and a lot of fun on the dance floor. They made the most of this amazing Baltimore wedding venue for their joyful celebration.
A Mt Washington Mill Dye House wedding typically includes a courtyard ceremony. Unlike some courtyards, this one actually has space for a large guest count of up to 200. It’s also a beautiful place for portraits later in the evening as the lights turn on. With the trees in the background, it feels a little like an enchanted garden.
The Mt Washington Mill Dye House has all of the charm of a historic industrial wedding venue without the sterile feeling that some newer ones have. Instead of blank cement walls, you get warm, worn brick and tall windows. You get so much natural light in the reception space. Strings of lights on the ceiling soften the exposed beams and pipes. In case of bad weather, there’s plenty of space for an indoor ceremony.
Like I mentioned before, this Baltimore wedding venue has capacity for a large guest count. The whole property is about 5,000 square feet. Since it’s a former industrial building, the rooms are very large. It encourages mingling without feeling like you’re losing track of guests in tight spaces. Rental fees range between $5,000 and $8,000 depending on the day of the week.
The Mt Washington Mill Dye House was originally built as a cotton mill. It’s the third oldest cotton mill still in existence in the United States, and it has a lot of the original details that give it its historic character. Since it was built in 1810, it has also served as a factory and, now, an industrial wedding venue.
As a wedding photographer, Mt Washington Mill Dye House is easily one of my favorite wedding venues in Baltimore. Industrial wedding venues are cool because you can really make them your own with your decor. This wedding opted for decor that felt classic and clean. With the tall windows, skylights, and warm interior lighting, the space transitioned perfectly from dinner to dancing.
Nicole and Zach went for gorgeous florals in a pastel wedding palette. Their table arrangements brought a touch of nature and movement to the room. With such tall ceilings, these high arrangements worked really well without preventing guests from being able to see each other at the tables. The effect was elegant and inviting.
Nicole and Zach’s ceremony arch was made of coordinating florals. White roses, blush peonies, and pink orchids haloed the couple as they exchanged their vows. It made the historic courtyard feel more like an English garden. The lush flowers even tied in the embroidery on Nicole’s wedding dress.
On Nicole and Zach’s wedding day, they made lots of time for sweet moments with each other and their wedding party. While they got ready, they read emotional letters that they wrote to each other. They had a first look at their hotel, and we took some portraits on the rooftop with the Baltimore skyline in the background.
We saved the majority of portraits for Mt Washington Mill Dye House, though. The grounds have such amazing light and varied backdrops. Before the ceremony, we made the most of the sun dappled courtyard for couples portraits and wedding party photos. In the evening, we headed back out for some magical moments beneath the strings of lights.
Nicole and Zach’s wedding was so much fun to photograph. They’re very sweet people and surrounded themselves with people who were so excited to celebrate them. I love the dance floor moments where you can see the pure joy on everyone’s faces. Everyone seemed so natural and at home with each other.
