Kelly and John’s Aldie Mansion wedding is proof that you can have a joyful, down-to-earth wedding day even in the most elegant venue. Their wedding photos combine gently posed and documentary photos portray the fun and beauty that characterizes this amazing day.
Aldie Mansion is one of my all time favorite wedding venues. It’s absolutely beautiful, and there are endless possibilities for creative ceremony and reception set ups. The gardens, house, and grounds all offer amazing backdrops for photos too. It feels like a world apart from your everyday experience.
Even though Kelly and John had their ceremony at a church, you can have yours on the grounds. An Aldie Mansion wedding ceremony can take place in one of five locations on the grounds. Most of the ceremony locations are outdoors, including the brick courtyard and Tea Garden. There are two indoor locations, though, so you don’t have to stress about rain ruining your day. You can see from John and Kelly’s reception photos that this gorgeous ballroom is a far cry from your typical generic hotel setup.
An Aldie Mansion wedding benefits from the deeply intentional approach the original owners took to its design. William and Martha Mercer commissioned the home in the 1920s. They were big fans of the English Tudor style and spared no expense with water features, elaborate brick patterns, and expertly crafted tiles. It’s no wonder the Hertiage Conservancy, a local nonprofit, chose to have its headquarters here.
Typically, packages that include ceremony and reception at Aldie Mansion start around $6,400. With catering and everything factored in, packages generally range between $13,000 and $15,000. Keep in mind that you need a minimum of 100 guests to book a wedding at Aldie Mansion. It’s not intended for micro weddings or more intimate celebrations.
As Philadelphia-are wedding venues go, Aldie Mansion is a little farther than some but still definitely driveable for locals. It’s located in Doylestown a little over an hour outside of Philadelphia. Several train lines go to Doylestown, so even non-drivers can get around relatively easily. For out-of-towners, there are plenty of hotels in the area.
An Aldie Mansion wedding might be elegant, but that doesn’t mean it has to feel super formal. Kelly and John are down-to-earth people. Joy infused their day, and everyone could focus on being present as opposed to running through an overloaded timeline. Kelly and John’s wedding photos reflect that sense of warmth.
Originally, Kelly and John didn’t plan to have a first look at their Aldie Mansion wedding. I suggested they do it because their timeline didn’t leave a lot of time for portraits after the ceremony. It worked out because of the gloomy weather. Kelly and John also said it helped settle their nerves before the ceremony.
The courtyard at the Aldie Mansion really was the perfect setting for this sweet moment. Kelly and John both got pretty emotional when they saw each other. The fountain and landscaping framed the moment beautifully. It felt a bit like they had a castle all to themselves.
Even though Kelly and John’s Aldie Mansion wedding was very elegant, their focus stayed on their guests, not their decor. It’s always a joy to photograph weddings where people are so present and connected. All the lovely documentary moments were such a treat to photograph.
Before their Aldie Mansion wedding, Kelly actually mentioned to me that she doesn’t love having all eyes on her. Finding quiet moments throughout the day helped everyone relax and enjoy the day more. Whether Kelly and John were breathing in the moment or Kelly was showing her ring to a family member, those genuine connections created the best photos.
