For New Yorkers Maria and Sam, Brooklyn engagement photos felt like the ideal way to document a part of their story in the city they love. Brooklyn is full of incredible scenery and a big variety of backdrops for romantic, candid photos. Check out these sweet sunrise photos celebrating Maria and Sam’s engagement!
No set of Brooklyn engagement photos would be complete without a stop by the Brooklyn Bridge. The bridge is iconic, and it’s a really fun place to take engagement photos. It gets busy, though. One of the best things you can do to get those stunning photos without tons of people in the background is to get there early. Luckily, Maria and Sam were down for a sunrise session.
Sunrise photo sessions can be challenging if you’re not a morning person. They definitely have their perks, though.
Aside from being an iconic spot in New York City, the Brooklyn Bridge is fun for engagement photos because of the visuals. The architecture and lines of the bridge make an amazing backdrop. There are so many great spots to stop along the way for views of the skyline, river, and even the Manhattan Bridge, too.
After taking photos on the bridge, I joined Maria and Sam in exploring some of their favorite places in the city. Sam is originally from New York, and they call the city home now. The two are getting married in Philadelphia. They saw these Brooklyn engagement photos as the perfect opportunity to showcase both of their favorite cities in their photos.
In some ways, Maria and Sam’s love story feels very modern. They met online, after all. In others, their story is really rare for modern relationships. Same is Maria’s first and only boyfriend. They’re so happy together that it’s infectious. As we walked around New York, it was clear that they love being goofy together as much as they appreciate being affectionate.
Maria and Sam couldn’t have picked a better morning for their Brooklyn engagement photos. The sun shone in a cloudless sky, and flowers bloomed in the parks. From the neutral stone palette of the Brooklyn Bridge, we moved into the green trees bright against the red brick buildings in the surrounding neighborhood. It’s amazing how colorful New York can be once you stop to notice.
Some of the prettiest places for Brooklyn engagement photos are around the Bridge in DUMBO and Brooklyn Bridge Park. You don’t have to go far to get a huge variety of photos in a session. We found a great balance of greenery and beautiful historic buildings. Combined with the glowy morning light, it gave these photos a lighthearted yet elegant feeling.
During this session, Maria and Sam were down for me to get creative with the perspectives and compositions of the images. We got some really unique photos as a result. Take, for example, the pair of images with Sam standing behind Maria on the park path. The image on the left puts the trees in the foreground with flowers between the viewer and Maria and Sam. It feels very cozy and intimate, like you’re being let into a private moment.
On the right, the image is just as intentional in terms of composition. Because of the light shining through the trees and Maria and Sam’s placement in the center of the photo, though, it feels really different from the other photo.
I’m so grateful I got to document Maria and Sam’s love on this dreamy New York morning. Would you like me to take your engagement photos? Let’s create true-to-you images to celebrate your love. Inquire with me here!
