As a New Jersey wedding photographer, I always dreamed of documenting a Grounds for Sculpture wedding. Now after several beautiful wedding days there, I can confidently say that this is a New Jersey wedding venue you’ll want to check out! This is the perfect venue if you love art, want a stellar dining experience, and want something unique.
I’ve put together a helpful guide to answer FAQs, give insider tips, and more! If you’re considering Grounds for Sculpture for your wedding or microwedding, you’ve come to the right place!

Grounds for Sculpture is a 42 acre sculpture garden located right outside of Trenton, NJ. Open year round, this inviting garden and art museum creates a beautiful harmony of both nature and art. You can visit the grounds and explore on your own, or attend one of their many classes and events they host. You can even grab lunch or dinner at Rat’s Restaurant, which is conveniently located inside the grounds!
When it comes to weddings, this is anything but ordinary. Grounds for Scultpure offers one of the most unique spots to get married and creates an experience for both you and your guests. They have multiple event spaces to host your wedding to covers the smallest microwedding to the largest celebration. They also have rain plans that don’t involve just flipping the reception space into the ceremony, and I can’t stress enough how important that is! Overall, this is one of the top choices for a New Jersey wedding and will be sure to create a memorable day for everyone.
Nestled in the heart of Hamilton, NJ, Grounds for Sculpture is so easy to get to! Located right off of 295, it’s easy to get there no matter where you’re at in New Jersey or the tri-state area. There’s even a few sculptures on 295 so you know you’re headed in the right direction!
When you arrive at Grounds for Sculpture, the main entrance will take you to their ticket booth and then into their expansive parking lots. You may also park at Rat’s Restaurant if the event is being held there, however their parking lot is much smaller and usually full. If you’re getting ready at Toad Hall, your best bet is to snag a parking spot at Rat’s since it’s located next to the restaurant’s entrance.
Most wedding ceremonies take place at The Nine Muses by Carlos Dorrien. It’s a serene location within Grounds for Sculpture and can seat up to 300 guests. Guests are welcomed with refreshments while they wait for the ceremony to begin. The ceremony always takes place at 5:30 PM, which is a half hour after the grounds close to the public, ensuring your ceremony is private and only your loved ones are present.

Most couples opt for their reception at Rat’s Restaurant. While this works best for smaller guest counts, I have seen larger weddings work in this space as well. You’re able to have cocktail hour on the patio overlooking the Monet Bridge and Rat’s Pond, a perfect backdrop to mingle with your guests. Then dinner and dancing takes place in their pavillion.

Their tented event space allows for seated dinners and dancing. It has a 300 guest capacity which comfortably fits most wedding guest counts.
An indoor option for your reception, this 3300 square foot space feels like you’re hosting your event in an art museum. It has capacity for 80-200 guests, which is a pretty standard guest count for weddings.
Their largest event space, the East Gallery boasts 5200 square feet of space with large windows to let in plenty of natural light. If you have a much larger guest count, this is definitely the reception space you should look at because they can comfortably seast up to 450 guests.
Thankfully, Grounds for Sculpture has a rain plan! Your backup ceremony space can be in one of the galleries in the event of inclement weather.

Honestly, this entire place is a dream! Grounds for Sculpture is 42 acres of art and nature harmoniously coexisting, therefore creating endless options for your wedding photos. There’s so many fun nooks and crannies, so no two photos taken here are the same. The staff and service are also incredible. They’re easy to work with and value great communication, so every event goes off without a hitch. After seeing how so many venues run a wedding day, I can’t stress enough how important it is to find a place that has all their ducks in a row. Grounds for Sculpture has you covered in every aspect to give you a stress free wedding day!
If a typical New Jersey ballroom isn’t your style, this space is for you! It’s a perfect blend of functionality and uniqueness. With well maintained gardens, every space on their grounds provides a stunning view for both you and your guests. Your guests also get entrance to the grounds, so they are able to walk through the grounds ahead of the ceremony if they desire.
Anyone who loves food will also find their cuisine to be exceptional in every way. The best part is you can always come back for an anniversary trip because Rat’s Restaurant and Grounds for Sculpture are open year round!

Above everything, have a first look! The opportunities for stunning wedding portraits around the grounds are truly endless, and nothing beats spending the afternoon with your partner and loved ones. Having a first look ensures you get to make the most of the grounds, and that you get to enjoy the delicious cocktail hour after the ceremony. Staff members are on standby with golf carts to take you and your wedding party to different locations, making it easy to get around no matter where you want to go.
As for portraits, you should always prioritize which locations on the grounds you want to utilize ahead of time. There are literally dozens of wonderful options, so having a game plan of where you want to go helps tremendously with keeping your timeline on track. Grounds for Sculpture’s website includes an interactive map, making it easy to plan out where we go. For more fun, you can make a date of visiting ahead of your wedding to scope out spots you love!
Also, yes, there are peacocks. We love to see them, but we keep a respectful distance and let them do their thing. 🙂

As previously mentioned, the options are truly endless! These are just a few of the best photo locations in Grounds for Sculpture that couples love:
Absolutely! For couples who want to make sure no one is around for their first look, your best location is the secret entrance to Rat’s Restaurant from the grounds themselves. There’s a small bridge leading to a doorway, surrounded by lush greenery. It’s completely private and allows for you to really soak in the moment with your partner.

Wedding costs at Grounds for Sculpture vary based on the time of year, guest count, and more. During their peak season of April-June and September-October, a ceremony and reception here starts at $8,000. For non-peak season, a ceremony and reception starts at $6,000. Catering costs from Constellation Culinary Group will vary based on your guest count and food choices.
It’s always better with inspiration! Check out this Grounds for Sculpture wedding to see what a full day here can look like!
