Like anything else related to weddings, engagement photos are a chance to express yourself. You’re telling your story. You get to decide what that looks like. Tiffany and Marc’s creative engagement photos show that your images can be a classic celebration of love and authentic to you. We headed to a retro diner for milkshakes followed by wandering Princeton’s campus. The resulting gallery is a beautiful representation of their relationship as it really is. 

Retro-Inspired Photos at The Nassau Diner

For their creative engagement photos, Tiffany and Marc were less interested in documentary storytelling and more interested in a stylized session. We went for full retro vibes at Nassau Diner. This old-fashioned milkshake restaurant in Princeton has the coolest vintage style. An antique phonograph sits in the window behind curling gold letters. The floor tiles and the building’s exterior look like something out of an interior design retrospective. Needless to say, the atmosphere was inspiring for some cool photos!

Tiffany’s sleek green dress and Marc’s outfit felt right at home in The Nassau Diner, too. Part of the fun of planning creative engagement photos is picking the outfits. Tiffany and Marc hit the right note with a touch of Old Hollywood glamor. The green fabric on Tiffany’s dress did an especially beautiful job of reflecting light and adding movement to the session. 

At the diner, we had a lot of fun playing with poses. Tiffany and Marc shared a milkshake before we got some photos in front of the vintage diner window. They look straight out of a magazine, but the energy in the photos is all thanks to their very genuine connection with each other.

In a lot of ways, Tiffany and Marc’s engagement session was really classic. Marc spun Tiffany across courtyards and lifted her for romantic kisses. They got space to just be together and connect. You can see how happy they make each other in every smile. 

I don’t like to throw around the word “timeless,” but looking at these photos, it’s hard to think of a better description. I can imagine Tiffany and Marc looking at these images decades from now and sharing them with family and friends. It’s like looking at them can make you feel nostalgic for something that hasn’t even happened yet.

Creative Engagement Photos in Princeton

After we finished our milkshakes, we left The Nassau Diner and headed to Princeton’s campus. This wasn’t my first time taking creative engagement photos here. Every time is a treat. The university architecture is so cool. Going for a walk there feels like stepping into a magical world. The campus added a lot of different backdrops that still fit with the retro atmosphere of the diner. 

One thing that makes these such creative engagement photos is that they’re part of a series. Even though they didn’t plan on getting married in 2024, Tiffany and Marc reached out to me back in 2020. They had the idea to do an engagement session every year leading up to their wedding. Each session would be in a different season. It’s such a fun idea! Now Tiffany and Marc have beautiful photos to preserve this whole season of their life together.

Tiffany and Marc’s engagement session is a great example of how you can get such a variety of images and experiences out of one photoshoot.
