There’s a reason so many rom-coms take place in New York City. It’s romantic and adventurous. I met Shannon and Zach in Manhattan on a rainy morning. Despite the gray weather, we caught Central Park showing off its best fall colors. These engagement photos in NYC are inspiration for anyone considering a fall photoshoot.
Before I share the story from Shannon and Zach’s session, I want to share some of my favorite tips for planning engagement photos in NYC. It’s the City That Never Sleeps. A few strategic choices can maximize your chances of a relaxed atmosphere for your engagement session.
If you’re able to hold your engagement session midweek, I highly recommend it. We can get amazing photos of you and your partner any day, but the prime photo locations are less likely to be packed on a Wednesday as opposed to a Saturday.
You might hesitate to do engagement photos in NYC because you’re not sure how to avoid the crowds that collect in the prettiest parts of the city. The truth is that there’s always going to be people around. Think of them as adding ambiance and context to your photos!
To catch your favorite spots at their quietest, try a sunrise engagement session. There will be fewer crowds, and the light will be gorgeous. Even on a cloudy morning like the day of Shannon and Zach’s session, the sunlight is soft and glowy.
New York has a lot to offer any time of year. When you’re picking a date for your engagement session, consider:

Everyone has their reasons for wanting engagement photos in NYC. For Shannon and Zach, it was simple: They share an apartment in the city. They wanted to use their engagement session as an opportunity to document their favorite spots.
Zach is also into photography. He wanted to schedule our session for a date when Central Park would be alive with vibrant fall color. We couldn’t have caught the leaves at a better time!!
This was a sunrise session, so crowds were at a minimum when we started out in Central Park. The clouds and rain didn’t dampen the mood. In fact, it made Central park feel really dreamy and look even more colorful.
We took advantage of all the reds, yellows, and oranges to take fun photos all over Central Park. Bethesda Terrace and Bow Bridge are two of my favorite places that we visited for this session. Both have such beautiful architecture. I love the way the lake reflects the fiery trees around the Bow Bridge.
Regardless of where you take engagement photos in NYC, they should be fun. Shannon and Zach laughed, danced, cuddled, and kissed across Manhattan. We preserved their connection in some iconic settings. It all felt very New York.
Central Park was one of our main locations, of course. We also spent time on the subway and in their favorite pizza shop. The photos on the subway platform have a strong sense of movement and energy. Shannon and Zach look like they’re either on the adventure of a lifetime or a power couple heading somewhere important. Either way, I love it.
Taking Shannon and Zach’s engagement photos in NYC was such a blast! I’ll take any excuse to come photograph lovers in this incredible city.
