As Philadelphia wedding venues go, the Mutter Museum is easily one of the most memorable. It’s unique combination of elegant historic spaces and medical ephemera sets it apart from any other experience. I associate photographed Rebecca and Ryan’s Mutter Museum wedding for Darpino Photo. The couple had to reschedule from their original date in 2020, and their guests were more than ready to help them celebrate! Their stunning details and irrepressible smiles made for incredible photos.
As the name implies, the Mutter Museum isn’t your typical wedding venue. It’s a museum for the College of Physicians of Philadelphia. Your guests can explore the exhibits during cocktail hour. A museum of medical history might seem like a macabre setting for a wedding, but its appeal is undeniable. The 1909 building has so many grand spaces steeped in character.
The Mutter Museum actually has multiple spaces that you can use for your ceremony and reception, depending on your guest count.
You can host your wedding at the Mutter Museum whether you’re doing an intimate ceremony with 50 guests or an all-out party with 250. Costs for a Mutter Museum wedding typically range between $28,000 and $32,000 during peak season. Packages at this wedding venue are pretty inclusive with in-house catering and bar services.
The College of Physicians founded the Mutter Museum back in the 1860s. Dr. Thomas Mütter donated his collection of medical artifacts with the stipulation that they be maintained by a curator. Walking through the space, you can feel the layers of history.
Located just over a block south of Market Street, the Mutter Museum is in Center City. It isn’t too far from Rittenhouse Square. It’s a great place to host locals and out-of-town guests because it’s so accessible by public transportation. The Center City and Rittenhouse neighborhoods have so many options for hotels, restaurants, and entertainment, too.
Rebecca and Ryan‘s wedding design was on point down to the last detail. You can find Art Deco influences throughout their Mummer Museum wedding. Their invitation suite looked stunning styled with Rebecca’s shoes and perfume bottle. Her rings looked like they could have been designed in the 1920s. Even the cake topper felt like something from the set of The Great Gatsby.
With all of the intention behind this wedding, it’s probably no surprise that Rebecca is a vintage influencer. Her perfect side-swept hair could have given it away, if nothing else. She DIYed some of the decor for this Mutter Museum wedding, including a crescent moon photo backdrop. It all combined with the historic architecture to make guests feel like they were stepping back in time.
Rebecca and Ryan kept their celebration really unique with nontraditional touches. Their rings, for example , have spiderwebs etched in the bands. Ryan’s boutonniere also featured black and brown flowers. These details have a bit of an edge to their elegant day.
You wouldn’t know from these photos that Rebecca and Ryan’s wedding day was pretty gloomy. Their details and unabashed joy brought so much life to every moment. You can see it in their energetic photos. They couldn’t even contain their smiles when we snuck out of the garden for portraits.
The big floral installations added romantic flourishes to the library and ceremony space. Flowers almost looked like they were growing out of the antique card catalog. In the reception space, saturated blooms sat in domed terrariums, mirroring the exhibits.
The moment Rebecca and Ryan were pronounced married, the party really began! Their cheer at the altar got everyone excited. Guests eagerly joined them on the dance floor up until their exit.
